Saving electricity costs and cutting greenhouse gas emissions is the main goal of Promoeener. The EU-funded project encourages municipalities and local councils to set up energy efficiency measures while using renewable sources of power. It focused on getting public administrations to use technologies harnessing local, natural resources such as geothermal, solar and biomass energies.

These include free and accredited e-learning schemes and a library of training material with over 100 000 entries among others. Both projects, namely, Meeting of Energy Professional Skills (MEnS) and the Open Training and Qualification Platform on Nearly Zero Energy Buildings Construction and Renovation (PROF-TRAC) are funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 programme with a budget close to 1.5 million euros each.
